'One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn't as individuals.'
Jean Vanier
The Society's Board is led by 7-repeat-planning-members who are committed to growing the event. Together, they provide the logistical and financial framework for passionate cultural and community association members to dream bigger and plan (even) better CultureFest festivals.
President
'As a second generation Trinidadian and first generation Canadian, I was raised in London (UK) surrounded by diversity. Individuals of all backgrounds formed meaningful relationships and shared a sense of belonging based on exposure to, openness with, and an understanding of each other. Airdrie CultureFest creates a safe space for culture groups to learn about each other, build relationships, and forge a stronger sense of belonging and community - Airdrie-wide.'
Treasurer
'Over the past three years, our enthusiastic youth volunteers have spearheaded a smaller-scale version of a multicultural festival, which has become a vital part of fostering a sense of belonging in our community, and I'm thrilled that they can participate in this larger-scale event!'
Being an Airdrie resident for over 20 years, I have always been active in the community in events, arts and culture, and non-profit organizations throughout. Airdrie CultureFest is a meaningful initiative to support a sense of belonging within our community. Through this celebration, it creates a catalyst for connection and education. I am proud to be part of the energy of this team in building arts and culture and supporting multiculturalism towards equity, diversity, and inclusion in Airdrie.
In 2006, Chris chose Airdrie as his home and immediately found ways to engage and embed himself into the community. Chris is the Head Coach of the George McDougall Mustangs and serves on various boards and committees including the Airdrie Sports Council, airdrieFEST, Homecoming, and the Airdrie Field Turf Society. With a track record of love and connections that span the city, as well as a passion for travel and culture, Chris makes a great compassionate and strategic addition to the CultureFest Board.
'As a proud Airdrie resident, I think this multicultural festival is important because it celebrates the diverse cultures that enrich our community. This event will aid in promoting cultural awareness, acceptance and inclusivity helping to build a more harmonious and vibrant Airdrie.'
'It can be really challenging when you relocate somewhere new, to feel connected to a place, to make friends, and to feel like you belong. I think Airdrie CultureFest helps to show that, no matter where you come from, you are welcome and you belong here in Airdrie.'
'Life is beautiful. Let's make memories together.' With her roots firmly planted in the Sikh community, Rajwant brings a community-driven and deep empathy and care for all people in Airdrie.
We are a growing body of individuals, cultural groups and associations who love to plan a party. Our first meeting was held in February 2025, and as members identify themselves for the 2025 year we will share about the team on our socials. If you'd like to join the committee, please send us a message to airdrieculturefestsociety@gmail.com.
